Tattoo Artists Become Celebrities in the Biker World
Bikers have developed a unique culture all their own. This has resulted in a number of stereotypes that are usually incorrect and sometimes just down right disrespectful. In the 1950s and 60s, bikers were portrayed as violent thugs and miscreants. Believe it or not, very few bikers are actually in vicious motorcycle gangs. In more recent years, tattoos have become synonymous with bikers. It’s hard to go to a rally and not see tattoos covering half the crowd, although they vary from very simple markings to extremely intricate large body pieces. These works of art have become an integral part of motorcycle culture and have led to the rise of a number of celebrity tattoo artists.
One of the most famous artists in the world rose to fame in recent years. Kat Von D first appeared on the world stage on The Learning Channel’s Miami Ink series. After her split from the show, she got her own shop and show, LA Ink, which currently runs on TLC. Kat began her career as a tattoo artist at just 16 years old. She honed her skills over many years before venturing out on her own. Her rise to fame and fortune has allowed her to venture into other facets of the industry, including an exclusive tattoo cover-up makeup. Kat recently released a book called “High Voltage Tattoo” that chronicles her work and journey through the world of body art. People planning to get tattooed by Von D need to plan well advance and be prepared to spend a lot of cash.
Another famous name in the tattoo and bike world is Corey Hart. Most people know of Hart from his outstanding performances in extreme motocross sports. He made his initial fortune by racing dirt bikes. Hart decided to pursue his interest in tattoos and partnered with friend John Hunting to open a shop in Las Vegas, Nevada. This shop, Hart & Huntington, is the subject of a television show called Inked that airs on A&E. The show has been extremely popular and features a diverse gathering of artists. Hart & Huntington tends to cater to the lavish celebrity crowd, but many people walk in looking to get tattooed. If you’re planning on going to the shop, be prepared to shell out a nice chunk of change because their crew doesn’t work cheap. Although most things that happen in Vegas stay in Vegas, it’ll be hard to hide your visit to the H&H shop.
